Now here is a day that I’ve needed. Waking up to the sun lightening the chill, illuminating images like a breadcrumb trail - drawing me to the forest. In an era when deep inspiration has become harder to come by, last Monday was a Godsend. Here’s a few shots, starting at home and leading me to Jefferson Memorial Forest in the afternoon.
I awoke one morning to a sunset just bright enough to illuminate a shadow on the old rusty shed in the backyard. What a blessing to be inspired to capture images on a cold winter morning.
These trees are native to Asia and can serve a range of purposes… from fertilizer to pest control. They also have notable points on the tips of the leaves, which are similar to trumpet vine.
I love the shadows on this one, it appears almost to form a hidden parasite on the underside of the log. And the contrast of the fell tree against the standing ones behind suggests the feeling might not be pleasant.
As I arrived at Jefferson Memorial Forest, I noticed this lone green plant withering in a field of browns and I was immediately caught up in a picture, without having yet exited the parking lot.
