Florida Tour 2020

Family Christmas was cancelled. Surprising, even during a pandemic…until you consider there were both very young and very old attendees. (I can say that since I am also old) Nonetheless, the word that comes to mind is relief. I didn’t want to mask up at the Aunt and Uncle’s. And, the youngest ones enjoy Christmas much more than this Scrooged fan.

How do I resist the urge to let the Holiday season bring on moments of despair, in a lonely house after a pandemic-battered year? EASY! Travel to Florida! …and why not all the way to the Everglades?

As it turns out, traveling during a Pandemic, through a state with major election unrest and related political discord, is not at all easy. In fact, one might say the portion from Atlanta to Florida was downright riotous. Put it this way…I found myself reminiscing about Mad Max Thunderdome on more than one occasion, as unlicensed sports cars with dark-tinted windows weaved in and out of traffic, souped up pickup trucks dwarfed my sedan, and tractor trailers obscured my view playing road boss in the passing lane.

Miami, s’il vous plait?

Still, this was uncharted territory; I had never been South of Tampa… so, enduring the havoc was worth it. And the payoff was pretty good, for a pandemic. Short of a detour through Miami, where I drowsily reserved a hotel on the wrong side of town, it was great to get some sun in December. The Everglades provided an amazing sunset, and the swamps didn’t disappoint.

And, the pictures? …good practice. I missed my fair share of shots, but I feel like a better photographer than I was before the trip, and new ideas flourished. There were a few worthy to post.... Which do you like best?
